Out of luck and running, Abby Pierce and her sister go to Colorado in 1868 to take over their father's trading post after he is killed. It's an uphill climb but Abby takes on the west like she was made for it and succeeds and falls in love with the fort commander in the process. He has other plans involving a move back east and marriage to a good family to advance his military career. Good story.
