My father's family were Indiana pioneers so I ordered this book seeking insight into their lives on an Indiana farm just after the civil war. I was not disappointed. However, I also found the story line compelling. As I read, I could not help but reflect on the difference in morals between now and then. This is a true tale made more personal because it is the author's family story as well.

I enjoyed reading this book more than I expected I would. It is so well written that I literally couldn't put it down. I read for enjoyment, not necessarily for enlightenment, and this author does a great job of making that possible. I will read anything he writes!
