I waited for the sun to rise,
Yet in your closed eyes
It remained unrevealed.
What would I dare to taste?

Sleeping skin taunting my senses,
Redolent with night
Drew me nearer, urging.
Why should I hesitate?

A shared bed of celibacy
Tempting beyond thought
That hunger's eager touch
Should end in ecstasy

It was not what we meant to be
But human contact
Cannot be directed,
Accommodating choice.

I longed only to hold you close
Bounded memory
Of words spoken softly
Unbroken promises.

Your arms about my waist surprised;
Awakened yearnings
I'd hoped long forgotten
A crescendo of need.

All we'd promised lost to passion's
Overwhelming drive
As whitewater waves
Crushed against rocky shores.

Incandescent flames battering
Resistant candles
Into submissive pleas.
That's how it felt to me.

Rising fiery from the linens
To envelope you
Within the current's rage.
How quickly cast the stage.

Unrestrained, how could we linger?
Your touch the ember
To tinder imparted
Uncontrolled agony.

As need imploded into need
An unfolded seed
Unfurled unknown petals
Blossoming in your light.

Still we paused against the moment
A remembering
Choice made in sanity
Our insanity.

I like this. Check out the "touch of insanity" in my poem "Learn to Rejoice"
