I loved this. Great characters. Great setting in India. Not a murder but a kidnapping. You really root for Ghote to prevail against all odds.

I will look for more in this series.

An excellent mystery series from late last century. This is the first one in the series. The detective is a rather humble, yet sure of his detecting, Bombay policeman. This one is about the kidnapping of a poor man's son. The kidnappers thought he was a rich man's son and would get a lot of money for him. Ghote must get the boy before the kidnappers give up and murder him, in spite of interference for his own bosses, bad-guys, and rich-guys.
