I have gone and selected some and they are in my computer under my pictures,but when iI hit it to save it, "actually it doesn't say save" it says open and I do, but it doesn't do anything...

Hope the reason for this may be that the avatar you are trying to add is too big.  Make sure first that it is within the size parameters.  And be sure to click "Update Forum Settings" or "Update Profile Settings" to make sure it goes through. 

Plus, sometimes (I have noticed) it takes a couple of tries to get it to 'take'.

Let's see if I can recall how I do it without having to go to my settings to remind myself.  Ha ha.

Ok, I go to my settings and then to the button that says "Browse".  I click on that and it pulls up my pictures.  I scroll thru, find the one I want and double click it.  That double clicking loads that picture into the long white box next to the "Browse"  button, and, at the same time, closes my pictures on my computer.  I then go to the button on my settings page, within the same blue box that says "Update settings" or similar wording and click that once.  Often times that doesn't load the pic and that tells me my pic is too big and I go thru the whole process again and find another pic/blinkie/avi/etc.  I hope that helps..........
