I have some issues with the implication in the rules that a used item is less green than one made of something recycled or a new organic item.

It's more green to re-use something in its current form than it is to use resources to change it, or to make something new.

For example, a used shirt is more green than a new shirt made of recycled plastic or a new shirt made of organic fabric.

I understand wanting nice things in the swap, but people need to get over the idea that used=bad/stained/broken/whatever the problem is.  Yes, some used items are and people need to use some common sense--same as not buying random cheap crappy junk new.  There are lots of nice used items out the and they are quite green, since they already exist.

Great comment!  No, of course a used item is green and wonderful!  However, when you are exchanging gifts, many used items are not appropriate...so I wanted to make sure that a buddy wasn't sent something that would disappoint or worse.  That's all!  I buy all my clothes used, if not organic.  And most used, because...yes, they've already had resources put into them.  As long as they are natural.  But clothes are  not something most people would want you to gift them used...if only because tastes vary.  So thank you for your comment...I think you did, in fact, understand, but just wanted to make a statement; you are however, "preaching to the choir!"  LOL

I believe you'll note that an appropriate used item is allowed.  And that there are swap games that are specifically used, thrift store swaps.  I'm sure you can join one that suits your needs and taste.  And I encourage you to do so!
