I recieved a book today with a sticker on it I'd never seen before.

Sticker has an airplane on it with a red circle and line across the center and says "Ground Transportation ONLY".

I've never seen this one before, have any of you?

Edited to say:  It came from IL to me in CA and was mailed on Aug. 26 which is pretty fast!

Sounds like some zealous P O person used what I assume is a sticker intended for hazardous goods on a Media Mail package in error?

Nope, that's the sticker that gets put on packages over 13 ounces, using stamps, that aren't handed in at the counter.  Usually they get returned to the sender though.

There is supposed to be a special sticker that also goes over the address, so it gets returned to sender.  Either the clerk didn't get that sticker put on or it fell off. Lucky you that you got the book anyway!

Interesting information, thanks for sharing :-)

I recently saw a new sticker, it was red/orange and said "Media Mail - subject to inspection"  my clerk used it to cover a 'first class' label on my package.  They don't use it much tho, I've mailed lots of Media Mail since and haven't seen it used again.

I have found that media mail is so much faster than regular mail.  I send alot of boxes media mail to my family from NC to NH and it takes the same amount of time as if I send it   FC mail.  Even all the books I send through PBS seem to get wherever they are going very quickly.

I believe most window clerks are trained NOT to put a Media Mail package in the First (Priority) Class bin. However, ones that are put in the mail directly by the sender are usually just lumped into FC bins.
