Interlude in Death - In Death Author:J. D. Robb In early spring of 2059, Lieutenant Eve Dallas is called off planet to face a grueling ordeal - giving a seminar at the largest police conference of the year, to be held in a swanky resort. A resort which just happens to be owned by her husband, Roarke, of course. — Even though Eve can't quite see it that way, it's supposed to be at least... more » partly a vacation. But work intrudes in the form of a bloody homicide, and Eve is off and running. The case is complicated by Eve's personal history with the victim - and by the killer's history with Roarke. As danger closes in and the body count rises, Eve must find a way to stop the cycle of violence and revenge, and shove the past back where it belongs.

If you don't care for Nora Roberts BUT love Mystery/Dark Thrillers with a side of romance and a dash of comedy - then I think you'll love J.D. Robb's ... In Death series written by Nora Roberts alter ego.
I won't go into the details of the books but will tell you this: Superb character development, continuity of the story line (which means you really need to read the books in order although they can stand alone) is top notch, the relationships that are webbed and weaved together throughout each page are phenomenal and let's the reader 'really' get to know the characters.
Here's a list of all the books in order (I'm leaving off the 'In Death' part):
7.5 Midnight in Death (Silent Night Anthology)
12.5 Interlude in Death (Out of this World Anthology)
17.5 Remember When (1st part by Nora, 2nd by JD Robb - stories are connected)
22.5 Haunted in Death (Bump in the Night Anthology)
24.5 Eternity in Death (Dead in the Night Anthology)
26.5 Ritual in Death (Suite 606 Anthology)
29.5 Missing in Death (The Lost Anthology)
This is listed as 12.5 in the series, but it needs to be either 11.5 or 13.5.
Book 13 (Seduction in Death) picks up right after Book 12 (Betrayal in Death) ends, with Roarke in Ireland attending the funeral of a friend.
I love powerful Lt. Eve Dallas and how the complex New York City crimes are solved. If you don't wanna bite her husband, don't read these books! Nora Robert's best writing is as JD Robb in this "In Death" series of some 30+ stories to date. I collect all of the JD Robb books, but skip the Roberts, whose stories are not as tight as those about Lt. Eve Dallas - ass kicker! If the future of New York City is like this, I fear these futuristic killers who are sneaky and complex.
