story is a little bit on the sappy side, but i was completely sucked in... and it made me want to go out and learn interpreting - makes languages and the profession sound fascinating.

An excellent first novel from this author. It's the story of a female simultaneous interpreter in NYC - a world I never gave much thought to, but complex, demanding and difficult. She accidentally overhears a conversation about a possible cure for AIDS, but by her profession is sworn to maintain the confidentiality of anything she hears. She has a friend dying of AIDS and a boyfriend who is doing research all of which put her into a moral dilemma.
