With 900+ books on my TBR I really don't need more, but I keep buying these d*** paranormal lots on eBay.  Today I got in the mail:

  1. The Dark Lord by Patricia Simpson
  2. Witch Heart by Anya Bast
  3. Kitty and the Dean Man's Hand by Carrie Vaughan
  4. The Warrior by Kinley MacGregor
  5. Dragon Actually by G.A. Aiken
  6. On the Prowl by Karen MacInerney
  7. Night Huntress by Yasmin Galenorn
  8. Ravenous by Sharon Ashwood
  9. Night Rising by Chris Marie Green
  10. Mercury's War by Lora Leigh
  11. The Darkest Pleasure by Gena Showalter
  12. The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter
  13. Heart of the Dragon by Gena Showalter
  14. The Nymph King by Gena Showalter
  15. The Undead Next Door by Kerrelyn Sparks
  16. All I want for Christmas is a Vampire by Kerrelyn Sparks
  17. I Thirst for You by Susan Sizemore
  18. I Hunger for You by Susan Sizemore
  19. Primal Needs by Susan Sizemore
  20. First Blood by Susan Sizemore, Erin McCarthy, Meljean Brooks & Chris Marie Green

This is crazy.  I need help.  My husband is going to leave me if this keeps up, LOL!

Wow! If you read 5 books a week you have like 3 and a half years worth of reading. In the next 3.5 years new authors will come on the scene, series will continue and you are going to just keep adding to this pile without ever completing any of it.

Plus I can only imagine the space 900 books take up...

You should just decide which books you're honestly interested in and which ones you just have because you are an addict. Sell/Swap/Loan the rest and then delete your Ebay account. In two years you can get a new one. =)

I had an ebay account set up just for books, I deleted it after I found PBS. Plus I am now renting books from an online site.  So no need to buy except on occasion :) I have a bigger TBR than you Elizabeth, especially if I add in my unread James Axler books.  Need to read faster!

You are right Hope, but honestly, I just enjoy everything about books so I will likely not reform even though I couldn't possibly keep up with my TBR.  I love going to bookstores (new and used) and looking around, browsing PBS, Amazon, Alibris, etc and finding other readers and talking about books....  I also really like going down to the basement (where most of the TBRs are) and looking at all the books trying to decide what to read next, it is fun just looking at all the covers and reading the blurbs...... I guess I am just a book-a-holic!  :-)

Anne, you can join my support group, LOL.

Do you guys use Ebay or Half.com??  I sell a LOT of books on Half.com, but it's owned by Ebay.  Which one is better do you think?

ETA: is there a rehab program for Bookaholics?

Elizabeth, I have the perfect book for you....Not Buying It: My Year Without Shopping by Judith Levine.  Of course, I don't recommend you buy it, that would defeat the purpose right????

I have the imported version, but I'm not sure when I'll get to it though since I too, have a ginormous TBR pile (though it's only 1/3 the size of yours).  I'll keep you in mind though when I finish it :)

I am completely with you Elizabeth. My TBR is around 1300 now. I have slowed down on my buying, but there are so dang many authors I want to read. I think the paranormal genre is what did it to me. There are so many series, and they are long, so that you read 1 book and all of a sudden you are looking for 15 more in the series!

I have often went through my TBR and tried to cull out some of the WL books to send. I just get more in my want-to-read-right-way pile! I figure as long as I am getting them without bankrupting us, no harm. Books don't spoil or expire. I'll read them all some day :)

Sarah, I like eBay for genres like mystery and paranormal since there are lots available; if you buy a lot of titles the shipping on Half.com really adds up.  I do buy single titles occasionally on Half.com if they more obscure books.  For example I bought a book about platypus (what is the plural for platypus?) on Half.com.  There are a number of local used book stores around, so if I want a book I look there first (saves on shipping and I like to support the local businesses), and then I use Addall book price search comparison to look for the best price on line if I can't find the book locally.

Thanks for the offer, but actually I've already read A Year Without Shopping.  Clearly I didn't take it to heart, LOL!  That one I bought at bookcloseouts.com, another dangerous site.

I figure as long as I am getting them without bankrupting us, no harm. Books don't spoil or expire. I'll read them all some day :)

That is a good way of putting it, Melanie.  :-)  My DH always says "At least it isn't jewelry!"

I thank the stars above that I don't currently use either a credit or debit card........  I also LOVE going to bookstores and shopping here and at another book trading site.  My TBR before I joined these 2 sites was about 8-10 at a time.  Now it is around 400 - in just 1 year.

I don't have a hubby to complain - but my DD and her family are living with me now, so I get my grief from them.  And my mailman, of course!  I work at the same PO where my mail is delivered - so I really need to keep him on my good side.  I have to make him fudge every 3 months or so!  LOLOL

I have only 2 vices - books and ciggies.  The price of ciggies just went up a BUNCH - so we are all quitting starting at midnight tonight!  Wish me luck!!!!  I keep telling myself it will give me more $$$$ for books and shipping.  That will be my mantra.  Hope it works!  I guess I will find out soon enough which addiction is more powerful.......

My TBR pile is not nearly as big as all of yours.  I only have about 30 books in the house I haven't read, and I feel pressured to get to those!!! I can't imagine having that many lying around.  I admit though, that between swaps and what I get wl'd, I geta book every day or 2 in the mail, and my hubby thinks I am crazy!  OF course, he is the one who found this site for me.    I read about a book every day or 2, so I feel like I am never going to get to those 30 in the closet, I can't imagine having so many books I haven't read!  I would start to hyperventilate!  I have very few books I keep anymore.  I figure if I want to reread them, I can get them again to read when I want to.

i used to buy jewely all the time.  books are *much* cheaper!

Hubby says he'd much rather deal with my book habit than with those women who buys lots of jewelry, clothes or shoes.    My sister does not have a single book in her house( I know!  How sad is that -- I sometimes wonder if we were adopted we are so different)  but she has 1000 pairsof shoes.  She keeps them in the original boxes, and has 2 closets in the house that are stacked floor to ceiling 2 boxes deep, of shoes.  I don't understand her shoe fetish, she doesn't understand my book fettish.  But mine is much cheaper.

Same here Rachel. I have about 30 books on my TBR list and my husband says I don't read the books I have. Just because I don't send them off right away doesn't mean I don't read them, I just try to keep it to reading at work.

Good luck Cindy!!!  I've been there and it is tough, but you have the right idea: find something you want more than the ciggies.

BTW, I have a confession to make:  I received a box from bookcloseouts.com today.  :-\  Hey, they were having a $1.99 fiction sale, and I had a coupon code!  :-D

Elizabeth,

The $1.99 fiction sale ALMOST got me too. I was 2 steps away from getting Hotter Than Hell anthology and some Sherrilyn Kenyon books.

bookcloseouts.com got me too. 12 books for 22 bucks. Can't beat that. Of course, it isn't like my TBR pile needs any additions - this purchase put it over 600  :P

But I do read daily, so I should be finished with my TBR in, oh say, 3-4 years. If I don't buy any more books that is. Which means I gotta stay away from the book bazaar...and maybe the entire internet! It's too easy to shop!

I've just discovered the wonderful world of library book sales. I live in Nashville, so there are a million libraries and I've added all their book sales to my calendar. I'm in trouble! I got 25 books for $29, and 7 of those were hardbacks! They had all kinds of Keri Arthur, Lara Adrian, and LKH paperbacks for $.50. Woo-hoo!

I feel envious (30, really, how do you have the self-control?) and relieved (don't answer, I know how this happened!) at the same time, since I have about 400 on my Mt. TBR ;)  I was bad enough before finding this site, but now....geesh! Luckily, DH is also a bookworm, so he understands (although, he hates giving up his books); he has his own bookcases too :)
