A professor of engineering at Duke University, Petroski has published numerous fascinating books on the realities of successful engineering, failed engineering, the process of invention and technological development. Which really sounds heavy and boring. BUT IT'S NOT! Petroski knows very well how to make such things come alive for the non-engineer. (Try his whole book on the subject of The Pencil.) In the book presented here Petroski tackles the subject of how engineers think their way through the process of design. The book is composed not of generalities but of very interesting real case histories. Well illustrated.
