Over the course of the past two decades we have learned more about the Universe, and our place in it, than in the entire previous ten thousand years of human civilization.

Field and Chaisson succeed in documenting for the lay reader astronmy's tremendous advances in mastering the previously uncharted realm of the invisible Universe. Readers will especially enjoy the enthusiasm which the authors generate for their investigation of stars, galaxies, and the Universe - and even more importantly, the hidden matter lurking among them.

A most fascinating book.

Armed with radio telescopes and computer imaging technology contemporary astronomers are now revealing the invisible Universe as Galileo unveiled the visible cosmos.
