I received three books today via the FIFO system.  Two of them look in great shape.  One of them appears to have had the corner chewed on from the cover through about half of the book.

I listed this a RWAP and just let the poster know the rule against chewing marks on the cover.   I said I wouldn't consider it a postable book according to the PBS guidelines.  I didn't ask for anything just wanted to let her know that's what I thought.

The reponse I got was:

"Seriously! This is a used book! You got it for free! There is no damage to the part that you would read! Chill out! I gave you a stinking refund!"

Am I wrong?  Couldn't the book have been offered in the book bazaar or a PM to let me know it doesn't meet guidelines?
And the "chill out" comment - I didn't cuss, or type in caps, or ask for a credit.  I just wrote what the guidelines are.
This isn't the first time I've been told "This is a used book store" and the people knowingly post books against the guidelines.  What's the deal?
Just looking for opinions.  TIA~ Irene

IT's a very rude reply.  However - people like this are not worth your time and/or energy even thinking about.   They would have said that, no matter who RWAPed them or why.   Just try and shrug it off.  They were wrong - end of story.

Yikes, I hope I never get a book from her.

At least she refunded your credit. I would mark it resolved and not bother replying. She'll just get more defensive and rude if you point out that you didn't get the book for free since it cost you a credit.

If she keeps up her stellar attitude, she'll get herself booted right off the site. There is absolutely no call for that kind of response!

Rude! I'm surprised she even sent the credit back. In my opinion, it's the ones who KNOW the book they sent a unpostable book that act this way.I hate the "you got it free" line. You either had to buy a credit or pay to ship a book out for that credit. Amee is right. Just mark it resolved and move on. I know how hard that can be, but what else can you do. They're not worth the  aggravation.

The thing that makes me laugh is that she tells you to chill out, but she is the one who is pretty un chilled!

What a jerk.

*Hugs* Irene, there was no reason for rudeness.

Might consider forwarding the message to TPTB...kinda FYI.  If you just caught her on a bad day, it's no biggie.  If she's developing a pattern of rudeness, PBS admin may want to suspend her.  Apparently this member doesn't care about the rules, nor does she intend on becoming familiar with the posting guidelines.  Chewed books are specifically declared to be unpostable.

ETA - glad you got your credit back!

Wow, somebody must have peed in HER Cheerios!  There's simply no reason to talk like that to someone, ever.

LOL....I recently got "declined" for a book and the reason for not shipping it was "their dog had chewed the most of the cover and a third of the lower page corners off".  She felt because of my RC's I might RWAP the book

I think even without my RC (which only mention cigarette smoke and writing) I would have RWAP'd a chewed book anyhow!  Would anyone really truly want a book in that condition even "for free" (a credit or shipping). Can you really post a chewed damaged book here? I find that sort of digusting and I am an animal lover.

I find more and more lately that people who have the most to defend get the most defensive when called on their bad behavior.

Not sure if I would respond to the PM or not but I would surely be tempted. Totally uncalled for.

There wouldnt have to have been a 'stinking refund' if the book meet the posting criteria in the first place.

Thanks everyone.  I don't plan on responding.  I do appreciate the support for PBS members who care.

Have a great day all!

I love it when people refer to books on this site as being "free".  All books on this site cost a minimum of $2.50 (I think that's the lowest mailing cost).  Personally I would report that member to PBS.  S/he needs an attitude adjustment.
