The Holy Prophet mentions in a hadeeth narrated by Imam Bukhari (r.a.) "Indeed some form of poems are full of wisdom". From this hadeeth we can understand that poems have many points to reflect upon and take lessons from.
The Holy Prophet was not a poet but he liked poems, which had good meanings. He himself, encouraged the great poet Hadhrat Hasan Ibn Thaabit to recite couplets in Masjid Nabawi in order to defind Islam from anti-Islamic allegations. He stated " O Allah, help him through the Ruhul Quds" (arch-angel Jibreel).
At the Battle of the Trench, when the Sahaabah were digging the trench, the Holy Prop0het encouraged them by reciting the following couplets:
"O Lord there is no happiness but in Paradise. Then have mercy on the Ansar and the Muhaajiroon".« less
