Hi-

I was in B&N this afternoon and saw books by the author Jane Haddam.  This is the Gregor Demarkian series.  They looked interesting and I was wondering if anyone out there has read this series, and what do you think of it?  Do you need to read these books in order?

Thanks!

I have not read them but I've been told by a few people that they are good.  I believe I have the first one in the series in a stack of books to be read around here somewhere.  I should probably do that.

Not that it matters much here (because I haven't read these particular books) but I always series read books in order.  I'm a bit compulsive about it, actually.

Yes, I would definately read these in order, at least the first 3 or so. You won't connect well with the characters unless you read how they are introduced, especially the very first book!     Enjoy the series!     M'ann

I love, love, love this series.

I was reminded that I have lost track and not read the last 2 or 3 and I have reserved them at the library to get caught up. In the meantime, I re-read a couple that I have copies of. I finished "True Believers" over the weekend.

They are literate, well-plotted, and complex.  I agree, you really must read the first 3 or 4 in order to understand how the relationships come to be established. After that, I suspect you can jump in anywhere.

Great-thanks for letting me know.  I really appreciate it.

I have wishlisted the first book, although I may end of going to the library in the town next to mine and checking it out instead.

As a bonus, I noticed that the second book is titled Precious Blood  I need a book with the word "blood" in the title for the mystery readers challenge....

:)

I got one of the middle books in the series and read it a few years ago and really liked it. However, when I looked her up, I realized that this series has like 20+ books in it and groaned at the thought of starting another series that long. I do intend to start it one day, but not until I've finished off a few of my other lengthy series by authors like Martha Grimes, Ian Rankin, etc. LOL

She is well worth reading but yes you need to read the books in oprder or you will be saying 'huh' about the characters, relationships and how they became them.  She is very articulate and keeps you guessing.   I've read all  but the latest and have it wishlisted.

Okay, I've pulled the first book of this series out of my (dusty) stack and it's now on top.  I hope to read it in the next few weeks or so.

I had my wish granted for the first book-it should arrive soon.  I just finished reading The Likeness by Tana French and plan to move to Silent on the Moor by Deanna Raybourn later this week.  I should start this one next week....looking forward to it!

My husband has been requesting the whole series here on PBS and since he reads so fast, we now have 13 of them available for trading.

Interested readers?----- you can have 3 Haddams for 1 credit.  Order one and PM me with the other two titles

He has been reading them in order so the earliest ones are posted back in the system.
