I am noticing that there are a ton of Janet Evanovich  books around, on swap sites and at my Goodwill etc - does anyone have a suggestion for one I should start with if I wanted to try her out?

I started with the Stephanie Plum series, and I'm addicted!  I've read the first 5 books.  The first one is called One for the Money.  They're quick, highly entertaining reads.

Seems like I should look around for these books... I just got some credits so I may try some out :) At least while I wait for my wishlist to wish itself.

I heard a rumor about a movie, but I don't know how much truth there is to it.  I'd love to see Stephanie Plum on the big screen, but I don't know who I could see playing her.  Any ideas?

I absolutely love Stephanie Plum, you have to start with one for the money.  I guarantee that you will continue until there are no more.  BTW 15 will come out in June and all her fans are counting the days.  If we could get a book a month we would all be in heaven!

The Stephanie Plum series is a must. They are absolutly hysterical!  My teenagers hate when I read

them because I laugh out loud until tears run down my face.  They just don't understand me!

Update for me - I have read 2-8 :) (The library never had #1 and one day I went in and they had 2-5 so I just went with it) - I love them ! They have made me try out other mysteries, actually. Ah!

These two sound like a new series she might continue.  The Heroine is pretty close to Stephanie type, heavily into cars but only has one man in her "heart".

These are not as funny at Stephanie, but will definitely be the next series I'd read after Plum if it actually becomes a series.

The other novels are cute, her re-prints with Charloote Hughes.  They kinda of have an order as well, they reference characters from other books.  Sometimes those characters are in different stages of their respective relationships.  if you are like me you like to read everything in order even if not required inorder to enjoy the books.

RE: Plum Novels

Dont forget her in-between-the-numbers books.  Like plum spooky, plum lovin' etc.

I love the Stephanie Plum books. I really liked the Barney books (Motor Mouth and Metro Girl).  I sent Janet an email from her website asking if there was going to be another Barney book.  Her assistant emailed me back very quickly and said no Barney book planned but another Plum book was in the works.

I haven't Started any of the Plum series except for the holiday themed ones only because I want to get them all before I start reading them. But have read a bunch of her other books ( I think I have some on my bookshelf) it drives my husband crazy cause I'll start giggling and he always asks whats so funny and he just doesn't get it. I tend to finish all of her books in one sitting. I just finish Back to the Bedroom and Plum Lucky a weelk or two ago.

Yes, they are quick reads, all very funny and you will find yourself rooting for either Ranger or Joe...or maybe Joe, but at least give it a one time shot with Ranger......!

I didn't like the Motormouth one, but the inbetween the numbers are ok.  Quick and lite books. You should be able to find a library or book shop with the first three combined, thats how I got them, but I read them out of order, still a ball of fun.  If you are missing some, let me know, I have a couple posted and possibly more at home.  enjoy.

If you are branching out, I have 4 margaret maron sigrid harald mysteries on my shelf. I can't remember them except I liked them. It might be cool to have four in the same series. I would be happy to make some kind of deal. They are short fun reads, I think like the robert parker stuff which i adore, except with a female detective. Maybe like the sue grafton books?

I also have some not yet posted cat mysteries, mrs. murphy and the cat who.... if you are interested.

Does anyone recommend nora roberts' as jd robb?

I have been trying to find a series where the detective watches football and runs an animal (dog rescue?) shelter (he got a bunch of money and is semi-retired). This is one of the funniest I have ever read and I can't remember the author's name to get the rest. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

thanks for any info!
