I thought I would be mean helpful to Valli and start a thread on this author. I've now read several of her books and they are all what I'd classified good solid reads. While some might be better classified as fiction in an historical setting as opposed to historical fiction, JLB does seem to have a good grasp on her period and sticks with known history and then fits story into it. So far I've read,

Guests of the Emperor, female civilian POW's in Malaysia. Excellent

Cinammon Wharf, a bit of a family dynasty/spice trade. More romantic than historical but very good.

Glory, Yukon Gold rush

Seventrees,  kind of a wagon train kind of story that only makes it as far as Kansas. Very good, although HTF.

I will run and hide from Valli's wrath now crying
