This version differs from other ones in two additional respects:
*The author dipped into the new fund of knowledge about the times of Jesus which was not available to earlier writers. Thus, since modern scholars say it must have been so, here it is not merely a wind but a hot wind that blows on Jesus in the wilderness: and it is with doggerel and roars of laughter that men mock Levi as he waits for Jesus.
*Jesus of Nazareth has photographs taken in Israel and Jordan of an actor posing as Jesus and of local villagers posing as Jesus's contemporaries. These picture were made through the very twentieth-century television facilities of B.B.C. Thus, perhaps for the first time, readers can know that the Sea of Galilee is not only a name but a place of water, boats, and fishing nets; that the rocks on which Jesus walked were sharp: and that the people who surrounded Jesus had faces.« less
