There was no sound as Elisa and Scooter came flying of the cliff.
It wasn't the way I imagined it would be, but in that first heart-stopping second I realized it was the only way it could be -- if they weren't going to hit the bulge.
They looked so small, dropping through the air, Elisa's hair streaming red above her head...


The jumping place is called the Nail. It is ninety feet from the top of the cliff to the water below--where the ocean is said to be bottomless. Dru had heard about people jumping the Nail, but no one in LaPaloma had dared since that terrible accident ten years ago. Now crazy Scooter has boasted he has plans to jump, and Dru's trouble friend, Elisa, is jumping with him. Their stunt triggers a powerful chain of events that Dru and her boyfriend, Mike, try desperately to stop before it leads to another tragedy.
