Kat Balfour is essentially tricked into working as a galley member aboard a yacht on the Mediterranean as part of a character-building exercise cooked up by her father (following the theme of the series.) She's portrayed as the stereotypical idle socialite, but as the story unfolds, we see that all hasn't been roses in her life and that many things have contributed to a persona that is much more complex than the surface. In this story, there isn't so much a "grand transformation" of the rich-to-resilient heroine as there is a rediscovery of who she probably was in younger days, before a tragedy struck her family.

The hero in this book, the yacht's owner, Carlos Guerrero, is a perfect match for her... and not in a way that feels contrived to fit a storyline. He's as complex as she is, and it's nice to watch these two folks mesh in more than a physical way. We see their appreciation of each other in subtle ways -- another plus for this book. The fact that they're extremely passionate for each other lends the story an earthy appeal that juxtaposes well against its glamorous surroundings.

There's a lot of heat between these two, but, again, their relationship has some unexpected moments. It was nice to see that, even in that aspect of her life, there really was more to Kat than met the eye.
