A quick read - very well told story of a 13 year old girl's experience with an older man in chat rooms her via the internet's early days (1996-7) before the dangers of internet chat rooms were realized. The last third of the book was riveting - I especially liked how Katie delved into her feelings and how she explained the unfairness of her treatment by family, classmates and others after all was said and done This last chapter was powerful. A must read for preadolescent and adolescent girls - although I think the dangers of internet chat rooms are much more understood today... so much of this has been in the news in the past few years.

This book is a must-read for anyone who uses the Internet. While the book originally debuted back in 2000, it is still contains a relevant warning message for teens and parents.

For a teenager, Tarbox is an excellent writer, and her story will capture your interest.

Interesting story of how a young girl's life was changed because of a meeting with a "man" she eventually met thru the internet. Particularly interesting to me because the girl was from my home state of CT, about 30 minutes away from me. Nonfiction.

As a technology teacher I found this to be an important book to read.

There were a few contradictions, but I'm under the impression more happened in the hotel room than she is telling in this book, so that could be the cause.
When she got caught in the guy's room at the hotel her mother should have told the coaches that this is a private matter and not to bring it up with the team. I feel that the way her parents handled it was wrong.

The book kept my interest for the most part and I definantly think it would be a good idea to have teens read this. It will show them that the people they meet on the internet may not be who they say they are.

Story of a 13 year old who goes online and finds what she thinks is a wonderful friend-but who isn't at all what he says he is!
