My biggest problem is people looked at me cross eyed because I discussed homosexuality with my children! I figure when they get out in the world they will meet people who have diffrent orientations and that I want them to understand it was normal as my husband and I.  Everybody is diffrent but diffrent doesn;t equal bad. I think alot of the problem is everyone is so uptight about discussing sex with there children it's a natural part of life not a taboo and kids need good solid information not stuff they hear from there friends. Im proud to say my children have all grown up to be open minded. Maybe Im wrong but NOT talking about sex and sexual orientation doesn;t make it go away .I don't think anyone should have to hide who they are .And tolerance needs to be taught and begint at home.

I would rather tell the kids about it instead of them being told that someone is a "queer" or a "faggot", and I do hate those terms. I tell students when they use the "f" word to look it up in the dictionary,  that they do not look like an English cigarette nor a bundle of sticks. I applaud your decision.

I hoped that someday people won't have to hide who they are and I also hope no one ever takes there own life because of ignorance and religious dogma.everytime it happens I think thats one more step back and one more wasted life.

Heather .. Thank you so much for talking with your kids ...  If more parents were open and honest like you, perhaps suicides among the young would lessen ... As a gay woman, and very proud of what and who I am, I applaud you!  I was forced to do the "Christian" thing .. was unhappy and decided it was better to be what I am .. Now my life is filled with more love and laughter than I have ever known.  I am making wedding plans with my love, Wolf, and life is all that I ever hoped for ...    I'm happy to hear your kids are open-minded ... It sounds like you have done a wonderful job!!!
