A Killing for Charity Author:Arthur Kaplan Charity Bay is the smartest, best-looking private investigator to hit New York in a long time. She's so good she has more business than she can handle. Charity's the one the diamond trade turns to in desperation after first one and then another Forty-seventh dealer is killed and three quarters of a million dollars worth of gems are stolen. It... more » looks like an inside job, yet the police department's Lieutenant James Dunn--who is no fool, as Charity finds out for herself--can't figure out whodunit.
Charity is a challenge to the policeman. She is the kind of young woman men make passes at, and this bores her when she's on the job, so she's worked out all sorts of little ways of keeping them in line. But these don't work with Lieutenant Dun. At first that makes her mad and then she breaks the case and creates an impossible dliemma. Charity doesn't mind risking her life if she has to. What she doesn't like is risking other people's, especially a child's. And that's where she and Lieutenant Dunn come to a parting of the ways.
Played out against New York's high rises and brownstones, gritty streets, subways and shabby diamond district offices, Charity's first recorded adventure makes a highly entertaining novel and her public is already clamoring for more.« less
