I was just wondering if anyone here has been having this problem. I got a Kindle Fire a few months ago. After a couple of months I realized that it wasn't always charging when I plugged it in. I called Amazon and they sent me a replacement. The replacement had a problem with the keyboard. It was haunted. If I tapped L it might give me A. Or it would just throw up random stuff when I hovered over it without touching it. I contacted Amazon and they tried to walk me through a fix, but it didn't work. So... they sent me ANOTHER replacement. It worked fine... for a while. Today, I plugged it in and the light didn't come on. I had to wiggle it and sort of tug on it, but I finally got it to work.

I Googled the problem and it seems to be a "thing". Some say that the parts are cheap so the little doohickey inside comes loose. I'm so frustrated. I have a Kindle keyboard for reading, but I use the Fire for web surfing, Facebook, Twitter, games, etc. If I keep sending them back, I will eventually go thru every Kindle they have and still be stuck... or the warranty will run out.

Does anybody have any thoughts? I suppose I could try to get my money back and buy a Nook, but I'm a big Amazon user, so I'd prefer the ease of getting books (all that free stuff!) on a Kindle.

I welcome your ideas. smiley

I have a refurb Fire. One time I plugged it in and the light didn't come on. I panicked. But that was the only time. Usually it comes on quickly. Sometimes I have to wait a few minutes or unplug then plug again. I am not sure that the light being on indicates whether it's charging or not....IOW it may still be charging even if the light doesn't come on. Perhaps this is why the new models don't have the light. Personally, I prefer having the light.

Yes, when the light comes on, look up at the battery indicator on the screen and you can see it gradually lighting up green to show it's charging. That doesn't always happen for me. The reason I even figured out what was going on was because I "charged" my Kindle all night and the next day it was completely run down. After that, I started paying attention. I didn't know the new ones don't have a light. I like having it. I think they probably should have put on top or something, though.

Intresting, but unrelated, I tried to reply on here a couple of days ago, on my Kindle Fire. It wouldn't let me. Wouldn't bring up the keyboard. Had to wait until I was back on my laptop.

Maybe you should get a replacement, Glenda. (Another one). At least call Kindle customer service and see if they can help you over the phone with resets, programming, etc.

A problem I have had with my Nook Color Android (n2a card that makes it an android tablet)--I don't think this has happened with my Fire--sometimes an app will remain (or start by itself) and keep running in the background, unknown to me, and run the battery right down to nothing. So with the NC I always, before putting to sleep, check to see if there is anything running in the background that isn't supposed to be. One of the kids apps was so bad, I think it was a Bratz game, I took it off and deleted it from the account. (Bratz cookie game, maybe?)  Just something to keep in mind.

Of course if you don't have little kiddie games on the Fire, this could be a non-issue. But it's a good idea to check what applications are running before you put it to sleep.

Are you charging with the USB cable to the computer? I have a regular kindle but after a short time it wouldn't charge properly with the USB, I had to buy a wall adapter and charge it that way.

I've never charged from the computer. I just charge with the cable plugged into the outlet.

I just dread the thought of getting another replacement and having to add all my contacts and bookmarks back, etc. And knowing that it will probably just be the same problem.

I wonder if the new Kindle Fire HD will have the same issue. Should've just waited a couple of months to buy. Or maybe bought a Nook tablet. (But I read that most of the apps cost, even the ones that are normally free on other platforms.)
