This book was written in 1885, and is a product of its time. It is a classic by a man who wrote this book after returning from Africa. I read it in one of my classes. It is an adventure story, about the first white men to set foot in an African village. Some of the content may seem a little offensive to modern readers....but like I said, it is a product of its time, just like "Huckleberry Finn" contained racist language but was worth reading aside from that, as a classic, this book is very much worth reading too.
