I found this book to very a informative look at the expantion of the west during the time of Kit Carson's life. It could be a school social studies book as far as I'm concerned. I learned quite a lot. From Kit leaving home for the wild west at age 15, and his years of trapping, scouting, and his part in the Bear Flag revolt in California, to all the other events that happened around him during that time. Although I found it to be a bit of a slow read due to the writing of the day(it was originally published in 1935 and then revised in 1995)it was a great learning experience.
