I loved this book! It is for sure a keeper for me. I loved everything about this book. It was painfull in many areas yet beautiful in so many others. The author took me through a world that I knew nothing about and I was able to connect and understand it so easily. I had watched the movie also, and that was wonderful as well. Of course the book has more detail, but if you decide to watch the movie also, I think that you would agree that it did not distort your preception of the book at all. I couldn't put it down!

I really enjoyed this author's writing style. Told from a child's point of view first, as he grows up into adulthood. It draws you in, makes you care about each of the characters, and doesn't leave you hanging. With the many experiences of the main character, gives you a good idea of what it was like living in the middle east (before and after the war) without feeling like a drawn-out text book. Sentimental story will make you both smile and shed a tear, yet you don't feel manipulated because you care about the characters so much.

I am not usually someone who keeps books, but this book is definitely a keeper. Powerful story about a boy growing up in Afghanistan. Read this before the movie came out and still haven't seen it for fear that it will spoil the perfectness of the book for me.
