When I first saw this book on the bookshelves, I thought to myself, "Oh, brother!!! What a hokey, typical name for a romance story!!!" Fortunately, though, despite my thoughts to the contrary, I decided to pick it up and see just how "hokey" it really was!

Well, suffice it to say, I was hooked within the first few pages, and believe me, I have gotten sick of sanguine, la-de-dah romance novels and wanted something with more subtance, but this one had it all, and I just loved it.

I've read it a couple of times in my life, as it was so satisfying and well written. Years passed and I forgot about this book until one day I hooked up with an old friend, and we both remembered when we shared this book with each other, and I suddenly wondered where my copy of "A Knight in Shining Armor" had gone to. I searched all through my books, and couldn't find it anywhere! I had to have this quintissential romance/time travel book, so I searched on ebay, and behold, there it was! I re-ordered it, and now plan to keep this in permanent residence in my home.

A wonderful, enjoyable trip through time and a love that never dies!

Pick this book up and read it!

BOok was entertaining, but had one of the most annoying heroines ever. She lets men run all over her and falls in love easily. This is another story about the Montgomerys, but she doesn't seem to be a part of the family at all.

A great time travel book about an American woman stranded alone in England in 1988 and a knight from the 1500's who mysteriously appears always when the woman is in distress. Enjoyable, great romance, mystery and picture of the times in 1500's England. Not overdone on sex. Worth the read.

Just had to put in my two cents here, this book is a GREAT READ ! It is the book that actually turned me on to romance novels, and especially time travel ones. You run the gambit of emotions in this book, from laughing out loud to smiling to crying your eyes out. The ending is not the usual ending and it is a book that I truly closed with a sigh of contentment. I sincerely doubt, even if you are not usually a romance or a time travel reader, that you will NOT love this book, it is a keeper :-)

A lovely and highly entertaining book. I learned a lot about Elizabethan England from reading this. The author's intense research shows. The characters are more richly developed than in many romances, and the ending, while satisfying, is not what I have come to expect. I think I will enjoy reading more novels by this bright and creative author.

This book was just o.k. Many people referred to it when I was looking for a book similar to Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander", but this book falls far short of expectations. The dialogue was laughable at points, the characters are shallow, and I just could not get used to the heroine's far too masculine name- "Dougless", and her constant jealousy and whining really got on my nerves. I found the ending unsatisfying as well.

This is one of those romance books that you pick up on a whim, but that for some reason, ends up staying with you forever. I've read this book twice -- the first time just because it came across my path and the second time because I had forgotten why I liked it so much and why I still remembered it.

Since I've read it, I've encountered that there is a whole genre of romance books that uses the whole time travel ploy, but this was my first time reading that so it sticks as a good read to me.

If I had a rainy summer day with nothing else to do, I'd probably pick it up again...it's just one of those...

Both my sisters and my daughter have read this book multiple times and I have to say that it is just as good the 5+ time around as it was when we first read it. It is such a funny book with a cast of characters that are unforgettable. It is bittersweet at the end for me but I dont want to ruin the story. It is still the most UNFORGETTABLE book I have ever read and believe me I have read for over 30 years

Saw the cover of this book and it brought back memories of the older romance novels I read as a teen. So, I decided to pick it up.

It was a very quick read and I enjoyed the story itself, but the female character was...sad, bad not that great?? I mean she spent so much time mooning over her ex boyfriend who was more interested in his daughter then her and all the things she had done "wrong" to make him break up with her. He left her stranded with nothing and somehow it was her fault.

It made her a little unbelievable. However, I did finish the book because I wanted to see if she was able to help her "true love"...

A classic Deveraux. She never repeated this type of story again and always have felt it was her best.

A KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR is a delightful tale full of adventure, wit and excitement, with characters that are well-rounded and fully realized. I adored Nicholas' enthusiasm about modern technology and Dougless' soft-heartedness is very endearing. And even though she comes across as a pushover at the beginning, it is this vulnerability that endeared her to me, for here is a woman who aimed to please everyone, especially her too-perfect family, all her life and then she finally meets this arrogant aristocrat who appreciates her for what she is and doesn't find her wanting. And the love that develops between them is so sweet that I found myself crying in some part, half-dreading to get to the part when they would be separated.

This book is so worth the read. I've read a few medieval romances and I must say that this is one of the best. Sure, the plot is nothing unique - knight in shining armor rescues damsel in distress, but what makes this an extraordinary novel is the vibrant characters, well-detailed descriptions and just the sheer poignancy of the story that is guaranteed to enthrall.

The main characters are wonderfully described and their personalities are delightful. This story has highs and lows, twists and turns, and some unexpected outcomes. But most of all it has love. Thinking about this story even now makes my eyes tear up. Find this book and read it, it's a classic, andI believe you will really enjoy it.

As an historical fiction fan, I read this one on the recommendation of a friend. I found the beginning a bit rushed as if the author were hurrying to "get to the point" of the book, a couple of the early scenes a bit contrived and a major logic gap. Despite all this, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Once the story got going, it was delightfully entertaining, racy enough to feel naughty, but clean enough that I'd recommend it to my Granny. Enjoy!

I was given this book many years ago and over the years have probably had 20+ copies of it - the problem is that every time I tell someone about it and lend out the book - it never comes back to me - people love it THAT much...I finally got another hardcopy edition which stays in my bookshelf but one of my missing paperbacks finally came home after many years, so I thought I would pass it on to someone else. Half of the book is fascinating historical and the other half is contemporary - the best of both worlds. I promise that you will love this book...I've never lent it to anyone who didn't fall in love with it or said they couldn't put it down once they started.

This is an early entry into the time travel romance category and a very good one. The heroine, from modern times is very much a sad sack kind of character and it's a bit unbelievable that any woman would allow theirself to be so put upon by others but..... the time travel and romance aspects of the story really shine once it gets going. I read it many years ago and then re-read it recently and enjoyed it quite a lot.

Very cute story! Dougless starts off as a timid and bullied woman going on a small vacation with her boyfriend and his spoiled rotten daughter. She then finds herself helping a man that has come from the past. He doesn't understand and she helps him to find his way back to his own time. Along they way they try to discover why they have such a bond and feel as though they've known each other for centuries. The story takes a surprising twist and Dougless finds herself going back in time into a flithy and repulsive town where her knight was from. They are lost to each other.............will they find their way back together and how can they love when they are from such different times?

Ok...so for years I have been told to read this book because it was fabulous. I always replied with..."Ugh...a time travel book...I _hate_ time travel books."
Guess what? I read it...and loved it. It changed my assumption that all TT books paint a romanticized outlook on the places the traveler ends up. This book had a man from the 16th century traveling to 1988. Then it had a modern woman traveling back to the 16th century. His experience and her experience were, of course, very different but despite this being a TT woo woo storyline it felt extremely realistic. Her experiences in the 16th century seemed spot on with history. Visiting the local town and experiencing the filth and stench of poverty for example. Never have I read such an accurate portayal of what common people lived like. Despite the harsh realities the book told about it still was a beautiful love story that was bittersweet. I was so engrossed with Nicholas and Dougless's story that I found myself tearing up several times. Ok...honestly it was a two hanky read for me.

From the back cover

Abandoned by a cruel fate, lovely, thoroughly modern Dougless Montgomery lay weeping upon a cold tombstone in an English church. Suddenly, as if in answer to prayers, the most extraordinary man appeared.

He was Nicholas Stafford, Earl of Thronwyckand according to his tombstone he had dies in 1564. Tall, broad of shoulder, attired in gleaming silver and gold, he was magnificent. Drawn to his side by a bond so sudden and compelling it overshadowed reason, Dougless knew that Nicholas was nothing less than a miracle: a man who would not seek to change her, who found her perfect, fascinating, just as she was.

Yet she could not imagine how strong were the chains that tied them to the pastor the grand adventure that lay before them

Yet she could not imagine how strong were the chains that tied them to the past....or the grand adventure that lay before them....

I know someone has already posted what the book is about, so I'll skip that part.....
I was browsing the discussion forum and saw that this one is recommended by several readers in a thread. I got it and to tell you how good, I lost my copy at a restaurant when I was only halfway through it. I went the same day to the library to hunt it down.
I didn't get bogged down with the history side. Much more of a love story and intriguing. You can relate to the female main character - we all know someone like this if not the reader. :)
The ending was not the predictable, overly sweet one.

This is a great time travel novel. It is unusual because the hero comes forward in time instead of the heroin going back in time.

78 people gave this book extremely high ratings. I was so disappointed! This was the worst romance that I've ever read. I couldn't get more than 20 pages in without throwing the book in disgust across the room.

Okay beach reading, but the plot is far-fetched to say the least, and the characters are painted with such broad strokes that they are caricatures of people.

Absolutely the best book ever written by Jude Deveraux. The plot is awesome. A lot of research had to go in to this book because of the details she writes about in the midevil period...just a really great book.

This is one of the best romance time travel books I have read so far. I read it in one day. Very believable ending! A must read even if you are not into time travel.

The heroine was pitiful. The knight in shining armor was a chauvinist who quite literally slept with (or tried to sleep with) every minor female character in the book. I kept wondering what Dougless saw in Nicholas. I was never enamored by him and never rooted for them to just make it work.

The time travel doesn't make sense. Maybe The Big Bang Theory is getting to me; but if Nicholas were to time-travel from 1564 to 1989, then Dougless were to time-travel from 1989 to 1560, the Nicholas from 1564 would have already known the Dougless from 1560...it would not have been the other way around.

Sorry, but that bugged me throughout the entire book.

How was Dougless able to take her travel bag with her? I wasn't able to suspend belief long enough to believe she was rescued by travel size toiletries.

Finally, she used the public fountain as her personal shower. She contaminated everybody's water for her own benefit.

Vacationing in England with her lover, Robert, and his spoiled teenage daughter, heroine Dougless Montgomery is abandoned by them in a remote country churchyard near the tomb of Nicholas Stafford, an earl who died in 1564. Almost immediately, an armor-clad swashbuckler materializes--Nicholas himself, reincarnated in the 20th century to clear his reputation, having been unjustly convicted of treason. Intrigued by his plight, Dougless agrees to help Nicholas learn his accuser's identity and restore his good name. They become lovers, and their adventures briefly lead Dougless back to the 1560s, allowing Deveraux to portray that period from a contemporary woman's perspective, as well as 1988 through the eyes of a confounded Elizabethan nobleman. Well-detailed historical highlights and a heartwarming conclusion will enhance the novel's commercial appeal to those Deveraux fans willing to lay out the extra cash for froth bound in hardcover
