I was working out a deal with some one, I told them the books that I wanted they in turn told me the books they wanted.  I mailed their books the same day. As soon as they were told the books had been mailed they canceled the books that I wanted. And of course it went to the next person in line.  It was a 4/1 deal so she is getting her 4 books for her one credit  and I am getting one from someone else.  This is the second time this has happened to me. Why can't people be honest?????

And also why can't we be notified by pbs when a book has been canceled instead of them just letting the next in line come to us

Okay feel a little better now.

That's horrible! Couple of thoughts:

1. Did you PM her about the order that got cancelled and what did she say?

2. You could report them to TPTB, I don't know if they could do anything about it but at least it would be on record.

3. But don't report her to PBS if you were just arranging a trade of books .... one member to another, which is against site rules. You need to be a Boxer to do a book trade with another member (who also has to be a boxer).  You might get in trouble for it too.

it was a 4/1 deal so credits were or should have been exchanged. (mine were of course her's were not) I have pm's her a zillion times and she will not respond.  It just makes me soooooo mad that someone would do that to someone else.

Definitely report the person. If they've done this before, then their account will be dealt with by the admins. =[

Report her - that is not fair and make sure you have the PMs.

Sorry that you're in this situation, Bertie. Very often the response in the forums whenever something bad happens is "report it to tptb."Do they actually get involved in something like this?

Just brainstorming here, I don't get books in deals... how about having an RC when you order a book that's part of a deal? It could read something like:

As we agreed beforehand, please a include (postable) copy of <the "freebie books' titles/ISBNs> along with this order of <book ordered for credit> in this deal transaction.

If the other person cancels and it rolls over, the next person will decline the RC and you wouldn't be out credits (unless there's someone who has all those books and is willing to deal somewhere down the FIFO line!) It also gives some recourse to people getting unpostables of books in deals when they were from the shelf (and should be in postable condition). I guess it would be okay if it was a commonly standard practice, but might seem a bit rude if this RC popped out of the blue. Just an idea, possibly very ill-conceived...

Bertie asked: And also why can't we be notified by pbs when a book has been canceled instead of them just letting the next in line come to us

Bertie, PBS works on the FIFO system and the system will keep trying to get you the books you ordered. Deals are not sanctioned by PBS and came about after the system was designed. The Book Bazaar used to be a place to advertise your bookshelf, to talk about what books you had posted. It wasnt until a member first offered a deal that the idea took off and the BB became the place for deals.

Most members order and receive orders through the FIFO, most dont come in the Forums, and a lot of us that do frequent the Forums dont come in FIFO. So having orders roll to the next member after being cancelled or timing out is the fairest way for the most members.

I am sorry that this has happened to you twice, but, unfortunately once the other member cancelled the order, it would have been up to you to watch and cancel the order once it rolled to the next member.

If they have not replied to your messages, I wonder if perhaps there hasnt been an emergency of some kind that may be keeping the other member from signing in to answer you. Or you may be right, they may have taken the order and run. Seems a shame though, to put their account in jeopardy for a few free books.

Did you have RCS that you didn't mention when making the deal?
