I know they can't post in the forums but do the profiles of a la carte members have any distinguishing symbol? Something that would set them apart from the leavers?

There's a new futility to posting books when they go to the WL of inactive members or of those who left because of the fees after 15 Feb.

Everyone who didn't choose a higher level of membership is automatically an a la carte member, so no, there's no way to determine whether an a la carte member last logged in in January or yesterday unless they've setup their profile to show that info. That's the same as it's always been though, and I'm not yet convinced that WL books are taking a lot longer to get to a member who has a credit and will either pay the 49 cents or has a swap fee/free swap available now. If there are a bunch of a la carte members at the front of every WL line who really don't want to pay 49 cents per book, then they should mostly be put on hold within a few months. It only takes a couple of missed WL offers or requests to get an account automatically held.

I did get a book request from an a la carte member this week for a book that's been on my shelf for almost 5 years, and I know all the people I've referred over the years ended up staying on as a la carte members (all were happy to be on a pay as you go plan, since they swap only a few books a year and don't use the forums), so there are still people participating at that level despite all the angst in the forums.

I have nothing against a la a carte members, I consider them active members and wish they could participate in the forums. I asked this question because I would just like some way to tell them, the al a carte members, apart from the abandoned accounts. Apparently during the exodus of those who chose not to pay or continue many leavers didn't find it necessary to delete their WLs.

A la carte members will not have the silver or gold book icon on their profile. Just visited my mom's profile (who is a la carte) and her profile page has her donation & postage icons, but nothing else.

Hope that helps.

I'd recommend just continuing to post as you always have. Even if someone hasn't already "chosen" to be an A la Carte member, they may just not have seen the email about the change yet and would accept an offer just fine. There has always been inactive accounts, there will always be inactive accounts.
