Claudia Alta Taylor was the third child of very wealthy parents. She becomes motherless at 5 years old. Yet she sets very high personal standards. She graduates fron University in Texas in Austin in 1934 with 3 degrees. A brilliant woman, but in 1934 women were not expected to work. She solves her problem by marrying her persistent suitor, a very poor, but smart Lyndon Johnson. After reading this biography about Mrs. Johnson, who learns to do just about anything her husband does, I would rate her as first lady the equivalent of Eleanor Roosevelt. The Johnsons leave their home and ranch to the American People as a National Park, free to all Americans. Mrs. Johnson becomes an advocate for all poor Americans, regardless of race. I admire her and I would rate her our best first lady ever. She loved us common, ordinary folk.
