Lady Elizabeth Croyden has declined many offers from the best of the ton's bachelors in order to marry Sir Anthony Russellford when he eventually returns from Jamaica. After three years, Russellford returns to England penniless and determined to put aside his dreams of marrying Elizabeth. Elizabeth is furious but Anthony would not be budged. Her brother secretly funds Sir Anthony's plans to recoup his fortune through restarting Anthony's family paper mill, hoping that Anthony will set his pride aside and marry Elizabeth. When Anthony tells Elizabeth that with the startup of the mill they should be able to marry in two to three years, she decides she has waited long enough for him. Only a miracle of love can bring them together.
