Solid, smoothly written trad regency in a different setting.

Miss Lydia Farnham had to find employment after her father, a lawyer, died leaving her very little. Her great beauty is a drawback - she has lost several positions because some male in the family harassed her and she was blamed and accused of enticing him. At the hiring agency Mrs. Gray sends her to an island off northern Scotland to be governess to a six year old girl who is in poor health - she is the daughter of the widowed Laird of Ardmore, whose first wife had been a London belle who never adjusted to life on the island.

Will each of them overcome their prejudices and discover they are right for each other? Of course they will - this is a genre romance. The pleasure is in the journey. I liked the unusual setting and the contrast between London and island manners.

No. 1 in a new series. There is a continuing character, Mrs. Gray, who runs a hiring agency -- a successful black businesswoman in regency London who has been "last chance" resort for several Tinley heroines. I'd like to know her story.
