I read this book a long time ago. It's filled with beutiful stories. It's a true testament of 1) what being a modern native is like and 2) a truly lived life. I highly recommend it!

This book was very good.I recently visited Pine Ridge and Redbud reservations and found it to be just as he says.....all these years later. It is a national Shame that these people are so desperate and hopeless. Years of oppression have taken their toll.
Lame deer sheds light on the "Indian Problem"and the journey of one man who came thru the odds against him,and became a wise visionary.
Well worth the read.

Lame Deer: Storyteller, rebel, medicine man, Lame Deer was born almost eighty years ago on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota. A full-blooded Sioux, he has been many things in the white man's world - rodeo clown, painter, prisoner. But, above all, he is a holy man of the Lakota tribe.
Seeker of Visions: The story he tells is one of harsh youth and reckless manhood, shotgun marriage and divorce, history and folklore as rich today as ever - and of his fierce struggle to keep pride alive, though living as a stranger in his own ancestral land.

With 32 pages of photographs.
