A book crammed with human history in the Great White North, from the arrival of the first hunters to global warming. Crammed with detail, it is a balanced report of the real world under the aura borealis. Includes details from Siberia and Russian contritutions to the opening of the North to the "kabluna" whaler, merchant or miner. A very interesting read.

Wonderful short history of an obscure area of the world. The author has devoted his life to studying the arctic, he's a great writer, and has a good sense of story. Covers the Siberian arctic, too.
