The last book I read started out OK, but totally lost steam by the middle of the book and the so-called "mystery" was so lame I had it figured out half way through.   Almost didn't finish; now I wish I hadn't.  Treasure of the Sun by Christina Dodd--what a stinker.  I'd like to strangle the person who recommended it.

What stinkers have you read lately & please tell us what was wrong with them, so we can all avoid them.

It has a zillion good reviews, but I thought "the surprise ending" was incredibly obvious almost from the very beginning.  When you take that away, it's just a rehash of the same old fictional child abuse tearjerkers that have been around forever.  The author tried to be especially precious in her writing when she had the kid measure everything in "Barbie lengths."  Except in all the super detailed background  there was never any mention of the kid having had a Barbie or playing with any other kind of doll, ever.  Blech!
