This book is a collection of writings Laura did - I think for a magazine - sorry didn't read that part too closely! She talks about various issues of the time -sometimes directly related to farming, sometimes about political issue..really though-provoking. I've read some and felt like I'd read a devotional(though not quite). This morning I read one about illiteracy and how the poor farm children had to help in the fields and couldn't go to school and how they grew up to be farmers who couldn't read farm manuals or a paper and were prey to believing any rumor - there was one line about should the poor farm kid work earlier and work later to pay the tax for the school improvements that only the rich would enjoy? just made me think how I tend to think the opposite sometimes - I work and the poor just go free...(not trying to start a political argument but this just happened to hit me hard this morning that it's been the other way around)
lots of topics coverered. It could probably be read cover to cover but I like spreading the stories out. I even bought a copy for my mom and since she's passed away I guess I'll have 3 copies now. I really wish they'd put this and her little house series in ebook format. may try to find large print if they did that version..
