This book was more a coming-of-age story during the Depression, WWII, and post WWII era than a story about the internal development of a writer. I guess if I'd read the description, I'd have realized that. Anyway, I'd recommend this more for history buffs and Mary Lee Settle fans, than for aspiring writers who want to understand how one writer developed her craft.
