Can someone give me any suggestions for a good book on learning Spanish as a second language?

THis depends on where you are -- maybe not for an absolute beginner but this series is very well organized. I do have a recommendation, however. I started my own Spanish efforts with books and tapes, and I wish I had gone to a teacher who might have helped me with pronunciation and grammar, so I would not have to now try to erase some things I did on my own. Vale la pena as they say. (It's worth it.) I highly recommend notesinspanish.com's podcasts, at all levels. All are free but it costs something (not much) to buy the transcripts. If you go on your own, do this! But hold in there, eventually the corks come out of your ears and you are having conversations! Buena suerte! Sylvia

Thanks so much for the reply. The notesinspanish  site will be a big help!
