in weeding out members...my niece wanted Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul and I'm about to go on my sixth person...I was a bit annoyed at first, but now it's a bit funny...I wonder how many people this request will go through before it's accepted? If anyone has this book, could you let me know and I will order it from you?

What's the most number of people you have gone through, trying to get a book?

7th time's the charm?  LOL  I think the most I've gone through is 3 members.

I see that you can order the book right now in several editions of paperback and hardback.  If you're a gambler, and you are on the site a lot, you might consider taking the chance of ordering one more copy in a different version...then cancel the other one quickly once someone accepts!

That's too weird when I joined the site I had that book wish listed for over a year before I got a copy! Too strange that there are now multiple copies available.

I've gone through 4 or 5 before I got a hit once.  Very frustrating.

ohh...the 6th one accepted and printed the label, just in the nick of time...crossing fingers!

Thanks for all of your responses. I'll have to remember next time to look at other editions.

The really frustrating part is that each member gets 5 days before it rolls to the next person.  I sent TPTB an email suggesting that it be shortened to 2 or 3 days.

TWELVE people and it was in the first two weeks I was on PBS.   I thought it was normal for that to happen!  LOL  Since then, I just figure any delay is better than my first one.

I think I went through 6 or 7 when I ordered High Fidelity. It just kept going and going!

You are put on hold, which shows up as a tab.  At that point you can click on the PM button to see whom you are waiting for, then click on their name to see their profile and bookshelf.  If they don't respond, it rolls over to the next person late at night.

Adrienne, you would pretty much have to be watching that book request to know how many people it went through. Each time a request cycles on to another person, the request date will change. They don't show up in your Transaction Archive unless someone actually cancels the request (as opposed to the request timing out.)

I think my personal record is six people if I remember right, the seventh accepted, but it's been awhile. Typically it will be 2 or 3 people for a book that's heavily posted in the system like a series mystery I need. Cozi....a dozen?? Holy cow!! I'm sure glad you weren't full of newbie impatience and discouraged enough by that long wait to quit PBS back then. LOL

And yes, I also look at being patient and waiting through those cycles as doing my part to make PBS better for other folks by removing some of the deadwood. Heaven knows there is no book on earth I "need" right now...I have enough books sitting here to read to keep me busy for about 3 years even if I never acquired another one. (Yeah, like that is going to happen! LOL) So I just patiently wait. :)

I've been shortening WL lines recently.  I trimmed 3 no responders from 2 WL last week and it looks like I'm about to trim one today.  I have one that's going to time out at 5.41.  I hope the next one accepts. I held off on accepting 2 book requests because this one was sitting in limbo.  But I couldn't take seeing the RCS and requests there anymore so I accepted and have to mail by Monday.  I hope this one is picked up by then. I go to the PO but I prefer to only go once a week.

Mine was only 3 or 4 time outs and then if that didn't take long enough the book went lost in the mail. then the person didn't even bother to reply to my pm the day it went lost.
