I have a huge ethical problem with this book. I am an employee of HCA, owner of Tulane hospital. After Katrina, I heard that HCA brass used private helicopters to rescue only their own employees and patients, leaving others to die. I read this book thinking that it would refute that rumor. However on the last page, there is a diclaimer stating that Bill Carey was hired by HCA to write the book. To me, that eliminated all impartiality on the part of the author. He was paid to write the book that HCA wanted.

The story of individual acts of courage at the Tulane Hospital after Hurricane Katrina. Siphoning gas out of cars to keep patients alive; helicopters landing directed by untrained young hospital administrators; how doctors and nurses wrote destinations on pediatric patients to make certain they didn't end up at the wrong hospital. Fascinating reading!

I'm not sure what I was expecting of this book, but I was disappointed after reading it. It seemed like the author was just stating facts rather than using those facts to tell a story. It was just ok; had a very hard time keeping interested in it after the first 100 pages, but decided to finish reading since there were only about 50 pages left of the book.
