If you are looking for battle plans or a detailed history of the U.S. 104th "Timberwolf" Infantry Division, look elsewhere. The real value of this book is a personal description of the drive into Germany from early 1945 until the German surrender. It begins with careful planning and almost descends into chaos as the German resistance collapses and the author's company rushes forward. Along the way he still loses a lot of his friends in the fighting.

The author also spends a good amount of time telling his wife how much he loves her in his letters home.
