Just finished one of Linda Howard's two latest releases, specifically the one she co-wrote with Linda Jones, Running Wild. I enjoyed the book well enough but throughout the whole story I kept thinking I'd read it before. Only in my memory the story took place in Montana, IIRC, not Wyoming. But very similar settings and plot line. Uncannily so. A woman fleeing an abusive man who is determined to kill her, she hides her identity and seeks anonymity finding a job in a small western town, bad guy finds out where she is and shows up to finish the deed. Since the book I just finished was just released it has to be another book I'm thinking off. Has anyone else who read Running Wild find it similar to another book they've read? There are so many strong echoes of this book to another I've read and I can't put my finger on the book I'm thinking of. For all I know, it may be another Howard book. I do seem to remember the earlier book I'm thinking of has one of the big bad boy, pursued woman confrontations in the woods, next to a river, IIRC. Anyway, the similarities are uncanny and I'd like to compare the two story lines. BTW - if it weren't for the publication date of this book and knowing it was written before the tragedy in Sandy Hook and the current debate over gun control I'd swear this book would be a love story as much for gun rights as for a man for a woman. Certainly reads like a shot across the bow in the argument for guns protect the innocent over the criminals. IMO |

There have been several stories with that story line! Robyn Carr, Debbie Macomber, etc. Reads like a Harlequin novel; very predictable. None of the older Linda Howard books' sharper edges. I am waiting for Shadow Woman from the library and hoping for more. Last Edited on: 1/20/13 10:49 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

A woman fleeing an abusive man who is determined to kill her, she hides her identity and seeks anonymity finding a job in a small western town, bad guy finds out where she is and shows up to finish the deed. I can think of a couple of books I've read with that plotline. One of the very early Conard County books by Rachel Lee has that storyline. |

I read one where a woman (a dirty, abusive cop's wife) and her child flees with the help of another man. He meets her at the river, I think, and takes them safely away on his boat. The cop eventually finds out where she and the child are and comes after her. The man who helped them escape has become a part of their new life and ends up saving them again from the dirty cop. I can't remember the title or author at the moment, but this is what came to mind when I read your post. Pam |
