I *love* how I can see on my wish list how many people are in front of me for books I want. Is there a way to have this kind of functionality on your bookshelf? I feel like I have a large bookshelf (I'm no Barnes and Nobel, but I like putting stuff up there, please check for yourself!!) but I'd like to know whether ANY of my books are coming up close to the front of the line. That way I can have a general idea of when I MIGHT get some points, you know? If that makes sense. For example, if EVERY book I have, I'm like 200 in the request queue, I might rethink what I've got up there. From what I can tell, I DON'T see this anywhere on the page. Someone might know? Thanks!

Happy reading,
Heather

I am not familiar with a way to see where you are in line on your bookshelf... but I really like that idea!

That doesn't exist right now, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're working on it.

Before you post a book, you can add it to your Reminder List, then check on your RL to find out how many copies are currently posted in the system.  But that doesn't tell you where you are in line -- except for the moment after you post it, when you feel so wise and all-knowing :-)

Actually this has been discussed a lot over my three years here and the general thought is that it would cause a decrease in posting because if a person can see that they are number 825 of 100 on their Grishams they might delete the book and do something else with it.

I put all my BL books in my Reminder list.  I print off the info on the book.  I see how many people are in line, and periodically (I'm retired, so I can do this), I add and subtract as needed to see where I stand on a book.  Having said that, you can be #1 on the list (or close to it) and if someone makes a deal your book can still be #1 several days, or weeks later, so it's not a foolproof system, but does give you some idea.

I like to know if there are 825 people out of 1000 ahead of me, as it lets me know that unless this is an extremely popular book (like 30 or more a month) I'm going to be on the list for a long time with that book, and maybe I'd rather add a book that doesn't have such a long line, especially if my space is limited, and I give the book to the FOL or sell it to a USB.  If I were 825 on the list and the book went out at 30 per month (and most don't), it would take over 27 months for me to get to the top of the list.  That's a long time to have a book sit and gather dust IMHO.

You have a good shelf Heather!  Your books will get requested.  You might consider doing a 2-for-1 deal in the book bazaar, I'd bet you'll get tons of requests.

Heather--

Welcome, a bit belatedly, to PBS :-)

There are several threads on the forums about ways to get highly desired books -- advice about cookbook and craft books, the Top 50 list and other things you can look for at yard sales, Goodwill and other "cheap" book sources to get books that will fly off your bookshelf.  Offering a deal in the Bazaar, as others have suggested, is good too.

I notice you are into several types of genre fiction, and you might try participating in the discussion forums over there, not to advertise your books, which is against forum policies, but so that folks will "see you" in discussion and perhaps be more likely to browse the bookshelf of someone with similar interests.

Cheers,

Catt

I wasn't really recruiting requests (though that's always nice!)... I honestly was just asking those in the know if this feature exists. It was an interesting point from the Pool Shark that PBS might not offer this *because* it may keep people from posting. I didn't think about that! Me, I probably would list any books I have even if I'm last in line, just to get them on there. I get a little thrill when I do post one and then look at my bookshelf list and see that "W" meaning it's on someone's wish list. That's very rare though! (And not a guarantee that it'll go.) Sometimes I even think it's funny- I'm over 600th in line for a wish list book right now. Good luck chuck! At least I am in good company, with people who *READ.* Because if I hear, "Nah, I don't read" from someone else lately, I'll do the suicide-wrist-slit-by-page-papercut very quickly!

Anyway, thanks for the replies. Maybe PBS will consider this a useful suggestion one day!

Deborah, on your WL page each book should have a small gray circle with an ! in it. If you mouse over the circle it will pop up your spot in the WL line (something like "Position in line: 3 of 5").

I use tags on my wish list to keep track of the number I've been at and update as I move down the list.  You can remove your tags after you get the book.

OK, this may be a really dumb question with an obvious answer - where is a link to the bazaars? Thanks!

If you aren't getting any orders-I'd put my books on my RL and see how many are posted. If you have a bunch that are plentiful in PBS you can always run a deal or become a boxer. I know if I want a book that has a lot in the system-I don't just order it for a credit.  I try to trade in a BOB for it or find it in a deal in the book bazaar.  I tagged all my RL books.  They're basically books I'll only order in a BOB or deal.  I can see my tag when peruzing someone's shelf. Then I just delete the tag.
