I've been on the waiting list for a book for years. I don't regularly log in here, but I do keep up with my email. I did NOT get an email saying that the book was available, but I DID get one saying that since I didn't log in to claim the book that my wish list has expired.

If this was a system glitch, it is awfully upsetting!  Now I am #3 for a book that won't come up again for years. Its a book from the 70s that I had as a kid that I want for my own kids.

I am not sure what you can do about the system glitch besides maybe contacting PBS through the contact us link and ask the to look into the issue and see if an email was sent?  I am curious (Being a child of the 70's myself); what book was it?

You could put the books you want on auto request so this doesn't happen again.

yes Sarah H, (ladyowl): You could put the books you want on auto request so this doesn't happen again.

Also, it is a good idea to get into the habit of checking your Main page at least once every time you log into PBS, to see the status of all active transactions. Your Main page is the place where all pending/active transactions are listed, and you can see there what is going on with all of them.

It is faster and more dependable than managing your account via email, which is subject to delayed delivery times by your email provider.

You can check and see if the system sent an email to you by looking at your Club Communications page. It's a link at the top of your My Account page. If PBS sent the email it'll be listed there.

Here's the thing about email that a lot of people don't know ... delivery is not guaranteed. Just because someone sent you an email doesn't mean that you will get it, or that you will get it within any specific time frame. It works great 99.9% of the time, but that's not the same as 100%, and you have no recourse if an important email doesn't arrive. That's why you should never rely solely on email. Have a backup plan. In the case of PBS, that means putting your wish list books on auto-request or checking your My Account page at least once very 48 hours.
