LeCarre gets into the problems in the Middle East. This is his typical cross / double cross type of story that he is so famous for. I had trouble following this one. Perhaps I just miss Smiley!

The Israelis recruit an English actress to infiltrate and spy on a Palestinian terrorist group. As you read this lengthy novel you will abhor the Israelis, detest the Palestinians, abominate the English, and begin to execrate US involvement (which is somewhat set-aside in this story). The details of the protagonists recruitment, briefing, and training are so protracted that you may even imagine that you are the one being drafted into service. All in all it will prove to be one of Le Carrés best works.

A fantastic thriller and romance, set in the Middle East. The characters are unforgettable.
