Over the years I have watched and enjoyed many of Lewis Black's stand-up comedy routines on HBO. He has often presented amusing rants about present-day life, and even though I couldn't always agree with his political views, he at least was an equal-opportunity basher, and no political party or personality escaped unscathed.

I expected more of the same when he tackled things spiritual and was not disappointed. He took shots at nearly every organized religion, televangelists, faith healers, suicide bombers - you name it.

Unfortunately, I discovered several distressing things during the course of these 5 cd's. First, he's a lot more amusing when talking to a live audience than when reading alone in a studio. Second, six consecutive hours of Lewis Black's ranting is more than most people will be able to stand. Third, he has several obsessions which get old after the tenth repetition: his penis; his Jewishness; his hatred for George W Bush (this was recorded in 2008 - I wonder if, after 5 years of President Wonderful, he still has the same low opinion of "Bush the Younger". (Personally, I miss him more every day.)

By the fifth cd, he had run out of things to say so he filled it by acting out a comedy routine he performed with someone else back before he got famous. It was so bad I started just skipping tracks to get past it.

I rated the entire enterprise two stars because some of it is mildly amusing, but I have learned a valuable lesson - where Lewis Black is concerned, less is more.
