Prepare to enjoy a funny and entertaining book by Douglas Adams that nvolves a mystery worthy of the Gods. Norse Gods that is. A highly fun and entertaining read.

Like his other books, only more so. Not quite as funny as it might have been 20 years ago, given recent events.

Couldn't seem to get into this book. Not nearly as interesting to me as Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Dirk Gently solves another weird one; and this one is weirder than the last. But then, its Doug Adams, isnt it. Something for everyone! From a mysterious explosion at Heathrow to a decapitated head spinning on an LP record, from a quiet ward in a sanitarium to the chaos of a Valhalla debauch, Dirk has his work cut out for him.

"...another semiprecious gem in his glittering tiara of humor." BIRMINGHAM NEWS Not sure why it is only semiprecious, but sequels usually are.

A rather odd (or perhaps normal) adventure with Dirk Gently.
I can't give a good summary because I still haven't quite pierced all the pieces together. It may take a few more reads to make it comprehensible. However, there are numerous lines that are classic Adams. You could gather a bunch of Adams quotes between this and the 'Dirk's Holistic Detective Agency' story.

this wasa my husbands book and i never read it...so i have no idea but Adams is pretty funny. here is what Amazon says
When a passenger check-in desk at London's Heathrow Airport disappears in a ball of orange flame, the explosion is deemed an act of God. But which god, wonders holistic detective Dirk Gently? What god would be hanging around Heathrow trying to catch the 3:37 to Oslo? And what has this to do with Dirk's latest--and late-- client, found only this morning with his head revolving atop the hit record "Hot Potato"? Amid the hostile attentions of a stray eagle and the trauma of a very dirty refrigerator, super-sleuth Dirk Gently will once again solve the mysteries of the universe
