These are some of the characters whose strange adventures unfold with gripping suspense in this collection of five new tales by Daphne du Maurier. Chilling and compelling, all of the stories contain elements of mystery, and some of them touch on the supernatural in very real and frightening ways. This book of five mid-length stories includes the title story plus "The Breakthrough," "Not After Midnight," A Border-Line Case," and "The Way of the Cross." The first three are somewhat in the macabre genre. My favorite is "A Border-Line Case" as it has the most action. The last story I found to be rather tedious at best. If you enjoy Du Maurier, this is worth reading.
