Hi, I think the PBS idea is awesome, but I don't really see any books I want. I am looking for advanced astrology books and they're pretty scarce, I thought this would be a great way to pay very little for a lot of books I need (yes, need - I am attempting to become a professional astrologer).

One item that could use attention is that most of the books that turn up in my searches have a tab for adding it to PBS, but not for ordering it! Can a person order the search to include only books that can be ordered from PBS? Thank you...

Make sure you are only searching under "posted books" not "all books".

Most of the books on the site are worth $20 or less on Amazon. If you're looking for fairly rare books, especially textbooks, that have a relatively high resale value, they won't get posted here very often. You can save a lot of money by using the site, but it doesn't mean they are guaranteed to have everything you want.

You can use the advanced search to indicate you want only books currently available in the system which are listed as "posted books."

Books that are not currently available can be searched for also, and those can be wish-listed so if someone does post them, you will be in line to get it. Sometimes you do get folks posting more obscure books, but those don't tend to come up as often.

It isn't so much about a lack of selection as it is a lack of the specific thing you are looking for. Chances are these books, if they are ever posted, are on other members wishlists or get snatched up fairly quickly.

Yes, books on more esoteric subjects are rarer. Often people keep them for reference rather than trade them, especially as often you must deal with the "textbook" issue and the ensuing PMs.

These books are also often more expensive to mail and so that cuts down on how often they posted as well.  Some PBSers probably donate books like that because they're harder to wrap and cost more than the value of a credit to mail.

you should utilize your wish list and just be patient. My wish list is always at the max limits and I have recieved many many books that are hard to find, you just have to be willing to wait

I agree. The more expensive books will be harder to find here, because members can get more for them at used book stores for trade in, and can do Amazon trade-ins sometimes on them, or sell them and get more than the price of a credit.

Also, the original audience for those specialty books may be small, so there's fewer of them out there to trade than there are for the cheaper, mass market books.

There's no harm in trying, but you just have to realize that you may have a wait. Someone has to be willing to let the book go at the rate of a credit for them to ever show up.

Definitely start a WL of books you are looking for and put in your signature line the kind of books you are looking for.  I know I immediately went to your profile to see what books you were looking for, but since you don't have  WL, I can't check my shelf to see if I have anything you might be interested in.
